I don’t know exactly where I’ll be sitting, but I fully expect to be at Ford Field tonight to watch the Browns take on the Lions. It should be a great game to see in person, because you’re not limited to the camera angles. You can focus on whoever and whatever you’re interested in evaluating. […]

I’m excited about the offense this year, now that Kelly Holcomb — in a surprising show of meritocracy — has been named the starting quarterback. Every time he got into a game last year, the team moved crisply downfield, punctuating drives with touchdowns more often than not. The receivers respond well to him, probably because […]

Fortunately, my power came back on in time to watch last night’s game. Unfortunately, I was too tired to make it past the third quarter. I liked what I saw from both quarterbacks and the offense in general, but the defense is outright scary. Unless that D turns into a ball-hawking unit that forces turnovers, […]

I just tuned in to veteran Plain Dealer beat writer Tony Grossi’s latest chat, and he sure doesn’t mince any words. In the aftermath of a lackluster loss at Tennessee, Grossi let loose with plenty of opinions on the status of the team as various key personnel decisions loom. Jamel White has switched back to wearing #30, believing himself jinxed by the new jersey number he chose for this year, 23. He’s already suffered a concussion and pulled hamstring. No sense tempting fate. And as they say on Saturday Night Live, “In related news,” Courtney Brown will now be wearing John “Big Dawg” Thompson’s […]

Congratulations to Kelly Holcomb and his wife Lorie, who delivered a baby boy this morning. The couple also has two girls. Pops was scheduled to be back at work this very afternoon, proving to any lingering doubters that this QB competition is no dog and pony show.

The national media paid the Browns some attention while in the area for the Hall of Fame festivities. Check out some observations from CNN/SI’s Peter King, ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli, and Pete Prisco of CBS Sportsline.

DINGS AND THINGS — As the practices grind on, the injuries are mounting: TE Aaron Shea dislocated a finger in the scrimmage today. S Robert Griffith hurt a finger yesterday and was wearing a cast today. RB Jamel White pulled a hamstring and didn’t play today. TE Steve Heiden also missed the scrimmage due to […]

QB SNEAK PEEK — At today’s scrimmage in Cleveland Browns Stadium, a crowd of 37,810 saw the team’s first action against live competition. Judging from the chants of “Kelly, Kelly,” Holcomb had the fans on his side. The stats also give #10 the edge, though he played more against Buffalo’s second team defense: Holcomb: 12-16, […]
