Chris (no relation to Betty) Crocker is the latest rookie holdout to sign a contact. The third round pick out of Marshall agreed to one of those five-year deals that the Browns are insisting on. At a certain point, these youngsters — whose agents hate the idea of deferring possible free agency — lose their negotiating leverage. Sitting out the entire season is practically unthinkable given the short lifespan of an NFL career. Missing most or all of training camp (while it sounds nicer than two-a-day practices in August) is not the best way to avoid looking like burnt toast when those prime-time moments arrive. That is, if you can even make it onto the roster, off the practice squad, and into the lineup.
