It’s been a several weeks since I’ve found the time and energy to post anything new. Apologies to my regular readers. Partly, it’s the adrenaline crash after a disappointing — downright disastrous — season. But truth be told, there are other priorities in life besides my Browns fanaticism. Lately I’ve been painting our spare bedroom […]

Here’s hoping the buzz doesn’t fade and former Packer GM Ron Wolf is indeed lured out of retirement to consult with the Browns on personnel issues. “Wolf is expected to accept the offer,” Fox Sports reports. He swung trades for Brett Favre and Ahman Green, so signing Wolf could be the best free agent pickup […]

Small world: The Browns’ new tight end coach, Rob Chudzinski, and I were high school classmates in Toledo. Half a lifetime ago, “Chud” and I were in a lot of classes together, as well as National Honor Society. I wouldn’t say we were close friends or anything, but I liked him, as did everyone else. […]

Two interesting tidbits from Beacon Joural beat writer Patrick McManamon show just how tough this pro football bidness is these days: –The players made a point to award Bruce Arians a game ball in the locker room following the win at Cincy: [Guard Shaun] O’Hara named Arians, said he was a good person and he […]

Hall of Famer Paul Warfield, who played for the Browns, then the Dolphins, then the Browns again, is reportedly an “improbable candidate” who sought and got an interview for the Miami GM job. The 61-year-old former receiver worked eight years in the Browns front office. According to the AP: When asked to identify three players […]

Good choice: It seemed obvious, but we know better than to take things for granted. In any case, congratulations to Terry Robiskie for earning a promotion from receivers coach to offensive coordinator. Now we can kid him for having more career fumbles than touchdowns during his NFL career as a running back. (So do William […]

On the record: Here’s Randy Lerner’s response to rumors that he’s planning to sell the Browns: It doesn’t merit the use of the English language. You can quote me on this all day long. It’s complete, fabricated invention. It’s nonsense. The Browns are in your flesh, they’re in your bones. It’s preposterous. I’ve got my […]

POSITIONAL ANALYSIS: RUNNING BACKS PAST: William Green started the 2003 season as the workhorse, as he seemed to come of age during the latter half of his rookie year. But despite all his skills on the field, he sorely lacked the maturity and judgment necessary to deal with the various pressures of his extraordinary young […]

Don’t expect popular receivers coach Terry Robiskie to stick around if he doesn’t win the promotion to offensive coordinator. For the sake of continuity, team morale, and experience (Robiskie has already been an OC and interim head coach), Butch should hand him the keys to this sputtering offense.

Offensive coordinator search: The Plain Dealer reports the Butch Davis is interested in 63-year-old Ted Tollner, but the Beacon Journal says that won’t happen, because the 49ers won’t release him from his contract as QB coach. Meanwhile, the Repository interviews the ousted Bruce Arians.
