The Browns today signed five players to the practice squad: OL Qasim Mitchell, LB Mason Unck, DL Corey Jackson, TE Keith Heinrich, and QB Nate Hybl.
Here’s what TE Chad Mustard, who was cut yesterday, told a North Dakota newspaper:
“It’s always disappointing, but I wouldn’t say I was surprised,” Mustard said. “They have three real good tight ends that are set right now … . I wasn’t getting the opportunity on special teams that I needed to make the team.”
Why not? You’d think a guy 6-foot-6 and 288 pounds could set up a wedge or block a few kicks. He also has experience at offensive tackle, offering some of that versatility that Butch Davis so prizes in his reserves. Can’t tell yet if someone picked him up off of waivers, or if the Browns just chose not to sign him to the practice squad, preferring newcomer Heinrich instead.
