Ready for some unsubstantiated innuendo? Here’s hoping this rumor pans out:

Word around the league is that Cleveland Browns coach Butch Davis might be forced to fire offensive coordinator Bruce Arians if the team continues to sputter on offense.

Likewise, Davis’s job isn’t quite as safe as most folks think, and a directive from the top to dump Arians would be a loud shot across Butch’s bow.

It also could be a roundabout strategy by ownership to get Davis to walk without having to fire him. Coaches from time to time will indeed quit in lieu of showing disloyalty to one of more of their assistants (see Poo, Diddly), and our guess is that Davis would be very inclined to leave Cleveland if told to dump Arians.

As we recently reported, there also are growing rumors that Davis will be stripped of his authority over personnel, via the possible retention of a G.M.

How would you like to see Ozzie Newsome in the Browns’ front office next year?
