Browsing back to my first year of Browns fandom, 1978, I found a few stats I wouldn’t have remembered. It was Ozzie Newsome’s rookie year. Did you know that the future Hall of Famer had 13 rushing attempts for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns? Find me another tight end with that many carries. Even more odd: Oz had two punt returns that season. Gained 29 yards, too. Not bad.

By the way, this was also Clay Matthews’ rookie year and the first season of Sam Rutigliano’s six-plus-year coaching reign. The Browns won their first three games, but they missed the playoffs at 8-8. They surrendered an astounding 129 points (average of 43) in their last three games.
