Just got done listening to Browns President Carmen Policy’s press conference. It was good of him to make himself accessible to the media and for the Browns organization to have his comments readily available on the web. I heard two very remarkable things:
— He had the astounding insight to suggest that William Green’s stabbing could actually be a sign of progress in his personal life. Here’s a direct quote: “In some ways maybe it’s the treatment and the counseling and the care from others, the professionals, that are causing it all to foment and come to the surface. So one might argue that in view of the fact he is not seriously wounded that perhaps this is a sign of things starting to happen that might, just might, be an indication that things are headed in the right direction.”
Now that’s an amazing interpretation of events, even for a trial lawyer, huh? Gotta admire that hopeful spin.
— He angrily took issue with a Plain Dealer column by Roger Brown headlined “Policy makes moves for possible run at NFL commissioner.” He called it an “irresponsible article and a sublime example of disrespect to me and the organization,” adding that it’s “especially irritating when there’s no truth to it…
“For someone in this league to pick up the paper and read that Carmen Policy sold his stock and is now setting the stage to be commissioner of the NFL in ’06, I think that that would be so distasteful, and I think that they should feel if this is true, who does he think he is, and where does he get off even thinking that he would have a shot to be commissioner?”
OK, we’ll keep that remark on file then.
