Listening between the lines to the Browns’ press conference introducing the new starter, Jeff Garcia, I realized that the Browns will probably draft a quarterback this year. I also realized that it probably won’t be Drew Henson, based on the fact that his agent is the same as Tim Couch’s, and Carmen Policy was clearly peeved that their negotiations with Couch were soured by the leaking of the Browns’ initial contract offer last week. Henson would have been a great developmental pick in the second round, but I don’t see it. I also would be surprised if they used their first pick on a QB. Not shocked, just surprised. Most likely, as I mentioned back in January, they’ll draft someone like Bowling Green’s Josh Harris, whom official site writer Zac Jackson made a point to interview a few weeks back.
As for Garcia, I’m hopeful but not ecstatic. Certainly a mobile quarterback is what the Browns need right now, because all I see on the offensive line is subtraction (O’Hara, Stokes), not addition. New linemen, if any, will be rookies anyway.
