Hall of Famer Paul Warfield, who played for the Browns, then the Dolphins, then the Browns again, is reportedly an “improbable candidate” who sought and got an interview for the Miami GM job. The 61-year-old former receiver worked eight years in the Browns front office. According to the AP:
When asked to identify three players that reflected his skills as a talent evaluator, Warfield cited receiver Webster Slaughter and linebacker Chip Banks, who joined the Browns in the 1980s, and receiver Antonio Bryant, drafted in 2002 by the Cowboys.
Banks was a solid if troubled player who spent five seasons as a Brown. As I did at the time, I still think that they should have picked a different USC Trojan with that third overall pick in the (pretty weak) 1982 draft. You may have heard of him: Marcus Allen.
