Those looking for some quality Browns football can tune into ESPN Classic tonight between 5 and 8 for programming in tribute to Otto Graham.
The station is also featuring a few Browns-related tragedies. The story of steroid-fueled Lyle Alzado, who had 16.5 sacks in his two seasons in Cleveland, airs at 8 and 11 tonight.
Also a biography of Ernie Davis, the first African-American Heisman Trophy winner, aired last week, but I missed it. Check their schedule for future showings. Davis, the first pick of the 1963 draft, the successor to Jim Brown at Syracuse and his heir apparent in Cleveland as well, died of leukemia without playing a down in the pros.
Finally, on the brighter side, mark your calendars for next Saturday, 12/27 at 9:30 p.m. for a half-hour recap of a 1970 home game against the Bengals. The 30-27 thriller kicked off the intrastate rivalry between the two teams founded by Paul Brown. Watching it might be what it takes to pump me up for the next day’s live performance.
