Lots of positives from last night’s preseason win. Chief among them:
— Couch rebounded from an abysmal effort in Detroit and had a perfect QB rating, in a home game, no less.
— Six different receivers each caught passes of 30 or more yards.
— Courtney Brown did more than just participate, showing signs he could be the defensive force the team sorely needs this year.
— Robert Griffith and Brant Boyer were back in action, providing veteran defensive leadership.
— Ben Taylor (three tackles, two assists) and Anthony Henry stepped up, offering hope that they are viable as starters.
On the downside:
— Left tackle Ross Verba hurt his right elbow. Today’s MRI should reveal the extent of the damage.
— The defense allowed 5.1 yards per rush. (Not skewed by one breakaway; the longest was 22 yards.)
— The offense gained only 2.1 yards per rush.
On balance, I’ll take it, though if Verba is lost for several games, the juggernaut is in danger, as our questionable OL depth will get tested early and often.
