Surprise, surprise: Cleveland has just picked a running back, Lee Suggs of Virginia Tech, in the fourth round. I’m sure we’ll hear the “best available athlete” cliche from the Browns brass on this one. Suggs was a 2nd-team All-American in 2000 (lining up behind QB Michael Vick), blew out his knee in 2001, and came back to score 22 TDs his senior year. Clearly talented, the main concern is his health: “He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee early in the 2001 season, a shoulder injury hampered his March workouts and a recent diagnosis of slight stenosis, or narrowing of the spinal column, have hurt his stock.”
Instant analysis: Jamel White may yet be traded if the price is right, because he’ll no doubt leave via unrestricted free agency after this season. If not, good-bye, James Jackson.
