Back on Saturday, Jamel White was “knocked woozy … when several players hit him at the end of a run”. Then he practiced on Sunday, until he “was carted off the field Sunday after taking a hard hit during a blitz drill.”

Coach Davis’ reaction? “Once the headache subsides he should be back to practice. It’s really not much of anything.” He didn’t feel the hits on White were unnecessarily rough. “It’s football,” Davis said. “There’s contact.”

Turns out White did sustain a concussion, and the worst thing you can do is risk “second-impact syndrome.”

That’s why practicing on Sunday was a bad idea. And now it looks like the Browns are in full damage control mode. From the official site: Davis said White’s participation would be limited “until he feels comfortable going back out there. One thing this organization has never, ever done is put any player’s health in jeopardy.”

Well, let’s hope that’s true, at least from this point forward.
