We hardly knew ye: quarterback Pat Barnes has apparently been released before any Browns fans actually got to see him suit up. No official word from the team yet, but the former Cal star and CFL supersub is disillusioned and considering hanging it up for good, according to this Canadian web site. What did the coaches see that prompted this pre-minicamp move? Hard to say. But I’ll take it as a vote of confidence in third-stringer Josh Booty and rookie Nate Hybl, the free agent signee from Oklahoma who seems destined for this year’s practice squad. And anyway, Coach Davis and Co. already have their hands full with one spirited quarterback competition.
