I’m not going as far as to say that Courtney Brown is a bust, but the first pick of the 2000 draft is definitely an underachiever. Yes, he gets double-teamed sometimes and may not be completely healthy, but these two points are telling:

1)Any acclaim he gets for the Jets game is solely the result of two flukes. First, he happened to be near the pocket so he could catch the fumble that Gerard Warren caused. Secondly, he put his arm in the air at the line of scrimmage so that John Hall’s low field goal attempt hit it. That’s it. Brown had no tackles in the game.

2)With half of the season gone, Brown has yet to force a turnover or sack a quarterback. What about tackles? His 17 solos ranks him 13th on the team! And even if he gets double-teamed, you’d still expect more than five assists in seven games, right?

The Quiet Storm is in a major drought, and I forecast he won’t be starting opening game next year for the Browns unless he starts to pour it on.
